The Director del British Council, Mr Andrew Burlton, in Gaztelueta

The director of the British Council in Bilbao, Mr Andrew Burlton, having been invited to visit Gaztelueta gave a speech to the students of Baccalaureate and 4th of ESO with the aim of introducing the peculiar educational system of the UK. Although all over Britain it tends to be several differences between the systems in different places Mr. Burlton focused on English education, the most common and known one.

The talk was divided into sections in which the director of the British Council explained the numerous stages which a student has to pass through during his compulsory education. The thing which most drew our attention was the A-Levels system which was far more different from the Baccalaureate here in Spain. English students start thinking about their future before so that they choose subjects predisposed towards what they like and what they think they are going to study in the future.

Besides, Mr Burlton commented information about the Cambridge examinations which resulted really useful as we are getting through them these years. He also recommended us not to be put off by critics about the difficulties of studying English because it is worth it. Nowadays it is compulsory the studies of English and he supported us (although he recognized that English education system is the one with less foreign languages in Education).

At the end of the speech Mr Burlton answered many questions in which he solved problems about University. That was quite well because the students of 2nd of Baccalaureate had the opportunity to resolve their doubts about the future. We all agreed that it was a really interesting talk and that we were able to know another Educational system. Finally the questions, helped us to have ideas about studying in a foreign country such as England.
