From Gaztelueta to Oxford

From Gaztelueta to Oxford

The University of Oxford is a collegiate research university in England (UK). Although its exact date of foundation is unclear, there is evidence of teaching as far back as 1096, making it the oldest university in the English-speaking world, and the second-oldest surviving university in the world, after the University of Bologna. Oxford history and teaching system has been explained by Fr James Pereiro, former Gaztelueta student (6th prom) to the IB 2º Bach class this morning. Fr James lives in England since 1976, and has been working in Oxford for sixteen years. He has explained most undergraduate teaching at the University is organised around weekly tutorials at self-governing colleges and halls, supported by classes, lectures and laboratory work organised by faculties and departments. Oxford regularly contends with Cambridge for first place in the UK league tables. In his back to Gaztelueta Fr James has remembered the times when only 6o students were in the clasrooms. He was glad that Gaztelueta has now 1227 students.
