The last five months we have been working on a virtual company project called ESAU (Empresa Simulada Aplicada a la Universidad). The programme has been organised by the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) Faculty of Economics, and has been coordinated by prof. Néstor Lázaro. The interesting activity has given us the opportunity to contact for the first time foreign inversors. The project has been an interesting insight in the Economics field. Very fruitful iniciative as most Social Baccalaureate students in Gaztelueta are willing to study an economy related degree to get into the financial industry.
The participants in the activity (conducted completely in English) divided the project into two different groups. The first one consisted in a new online consultancy and the second group worked in a contemporary decoration business. During the session, conducted via Skype, both companies showed to the inversors what they had been working on, hoping to get the funding needed to start providing our services. Money was the only thing missing. Before the presentation, both groups had already done all the necessary paperwork.
Along the session, which took place at the School’s Library using internet facilities (Skype) inversors came up with different proposals to improve both companies’ service quality and financial support. The interview was successful for both companies, as they got the funding they were asking for. We also learnt how to communicate their ideas, by explaining their balance sheets, marketing strategies, and so on. These skills are very important for future experiences and we definitely think it is a worth-doing activity.
